Dante Alighieri was born in Florence. He is belived to have been born around 1265.

Life
Dante lived in Florence, modern-day Italy for the first part of his life, until he was exiled by a rival political faction that held power at the time. Afterwards, he travled around Europe and wrote The Divine Comedy.

Style
Dante is credited with invented terza rima, a ryme scheme consisting of tercets, where the end word of the second line rymes with the end words of the first and third lines of the next tercet, and so on. It is first used in his work, The Divine Comedy.

Quirks
When he was only twelve, Dante was aranged to marry Gemma di Manetto Donati, although he had already fallen in love with another girl, Beatrice Portinari, who was nine years old. Beatrice was written in as a charecter in Dante's The Divine Comedy.

Importance
Dante's The Divine Comedy marks the endpoint of the middle ages, and the beginning of The Renaissance. He was also the first poet to write in a venacular language, so that even the common people could read his writings.

Death
Dante died in exile on September 13, 1321 in Ravenna, Italy at the age of 56. It is suspected that he dies of a malarial fever.
